Is not selecting Rishabh Pant in the team for World Cup a judicious decision for team India?
The whole country is on the IPL fever. And meanwhile BCCI has released the list of 15 players who would be going to England for World Cup 2019. There is a much hue and cry among the team members, experts, fans and the critics also. The reason being many players who were being in the top priority for the selectors are not even there in the list. Many players like Sanju Samson, Manati Rayudu, Saha, Yuvraj, Ashwin, etc are not able to secure their place. Not even the players like Suresh Raina, are able to enter into the selectors list.
But the major shock for the fans was Rishab Pant not being considered for the World cup. Rishab Pant was going through a good record both for India as well as in IPL. His form in the current IPL has been marvelous. But still he was not able to secure the position in the world cup team.
Now is this choice a judicious one or not will get to know after the world cup is over. Selectors must have given a thought about Rishab Pant, but he may not have been adjusted in the team.
50 overs match require a player who can give a decent start and push an innings till the end. Rishab being a ferocious batsman and a limited over player must have been out looked. Moreover, his role is as a batsman. Nobody would give him the task of wicket keeper when you have a world's best keeper and the best finisher in your team that is MSD.
So I believe for both these roles ie as a finisher and a wicket keeper, Pant cannot beat dhoni as hence the selectors may have not considered him into the team.
Being the World's number 1 team, the roles of the players should be well defined and those who fit best into the roles would make it to the world cup. And this would be the reason pant is out of the team. But no doubt Pant has a huge potential and he has a lot of career ahead of him and he would surely get to play in world cup also one day.
Thus I think picking Dhoni over Pant considering his role in the team as a player is a judicious choice.
