The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a regional intergovernmental organization that was established on August 8, 1967. It currently consists of 10 member countries: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The main objectives of ASEAN are to promote economic growth, social progress, and cultural development among its member countries. It also aims to promote peace, stability, and cooperation in the region, as well as to enhance regional resilience against external threats.
ASEAN has established a number of mechanisms to achieve its objectives, including the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA), which promotes free trade among member countries, and the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), which aims to create a single market and production base in the region.

ASEAN was established on August 8, 1967, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (also known as the Bangkok Declaration) by the founding members: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
The other five member countries are Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia. ASEAN aims to promote economic growth, social progress, cultural development, and regional peace and stability in Southeast Asia through cooperation and collaboration among its member countries.
ASEAN has achieved many milestones over the years, including the establishment of the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) in 1992, the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015, and the adoption of the ASEAN Charter in 2008. ASEAN also plays an important role in promoting regional security and stability through its various dialogue partnerships with other countries and organizations.
