इसरो का कम्युनिकेशन सैटेलाइट जीसैट-6ए सफल नहीं हो पाया | आईएनआरएसएस-१ आई 'मेक इन इंडिया' प्रोजेक्ट के तहत स्वदेशी तकनीक से बनाया गया नेविगेशन सैटेलाइट है | आईएनआरएसएस-1आई, आईआरएनएसएस-1 सीरीज के आईएनआरएसएस-1एच सैटेलाइट की जगह लेगा | इस सैटेलाइट की लॉन्चिंग पिछले साल 31 अगस्त को फेल रही थी | इस सैटेलाइट की सहायता से भारतीय नेविगेशन मैप सिस्टम नाविक की ताकत बढ़ जाएगी |

IRNSS-1I भारत के स्वदेशी नेविगेशन सिस्टम NavIC का हिस्सा है। इसे Indian Space Research Organisation ने 2018 में लॉन्च किया था। इसका मुख्य उद्देश्य भारत और आसपास के क्षेत्रों में सटीक लोकेशन, नेविगेशन और टाइमिंग सेवाएँ प्रदान करना है। यह सात उपग्रहों वाले नेविगेशन नेटवर्क को पूरा करने के लिए भेजा गया था। IRNSS-1I को खास इसलिए बनाया गया था क्योंकि यह पुराने उपग्रह IRNSS-1A के खराब हो जाने के बाद उसकी जगह काम करने के लिए भेजा गया। यह GPS जैसी सेवाएँ देकर सैन्य और नागरिक दोनों उपयोगों में मदद करता है।
