UIDAI एक बहुत बड़ा डिजिटल संगठन है, जो आधार (Aadhaar) प्रणाली को मैनेज करता है। आधार डेटाबेस दुनिया के सबसे बड़े डिजिटल पहचान सिस्टम में से एक है। इसे संभालने के लिए उच्च स्तर की साइबर सिक्योरिटी, डेटा प्राइवेसी और तकनीकी प्रबंधन की जरूरत होती है। UIDAI के प्रमुख को इसी अनुभव के कारण जीएसटीएन का अंतरिम अध्यक्ष बनाया गया।
सरकार का मानना था कि दोनों सिस्टम—आधार और जीएसटीएन—डिजिटल इंडिया मिशन के महत्वपूर्ण हिस्से हैं। दोनों ही बड़े डेटा प्लेटफॉर्म हैं और इनका उद्देश्य देश में पारदर्शिता और डिजिटल सेवाओं को बढ़ावा देना है। इसलिए एक ऐसे अधिकारी को जिम्मेदारी देना सही माना गया जो बड़े पैमाने पर तकनीकी परियोजनाओं को संभाल चुका हो।
GSTN को समय-समय पर तकनीकी सुधार और नई नीतियों के अनुसार अपडेट करने की जरूरत होती है। ऐसे में अनुभवी नेतृत्व से सिस्टम की कार्यक्षमता और सुरक्षा दोनों को बेहतर किया जा सकता है।
यह नियुक्ति आमतौर पर “अंतरिम” यानी अस्थायी होती है, जब तक कि स्थायी अध्यक्ष की नियुक्ति न हो जाए। इस दौरान मुख्य फोकस सिस्टम को स्थिर रखना और नई सुधार प्रक्रियाओं को आगे बढ़ाना होता है।
